Re: Language Arts Writing Curriculum Change
Message:
After careful review of our current writing curriculum it has become evident that some essential changes need to be made. Our students have access to new technology everyday and it’s important that our classrooms reflect the changing world. Writing in particular is such an amazing form of expression for our students, but many students become discouraged due to antiquated practices.
Integrating Technology into our current writing curriculum will allow for our classrooms to become more reflective of the 21st Century. Students can become active participants in the learning process through use of programs such as Kidspiration, Inspiration, Voicethread.com and the numerous other programs and websites developed to make the writing classroom more interactive.
Countless studies have been conducted amongst neighboring districts to determine the necessity and effect integrating technology has had on their students. Many districts have reported improved writing test scores and overall more enthusiastic learners. Most improvement has been seen in the areas of idea, voice, and organization.
Traditional teaching and learning will not be lost they are still fundamental part in teaching the mechanics of writing. But classrooms will see and increased use of various technological materials purchased by the district to equip our students with all the necessary skills and knowledge to become global leaders in an ever changing world.
